A. Osborn

Tribune Company
William A. Osborn joined Tribune Company’s
board of directors in 2001. He is chairman and a director
of Northern Trust Corporation and its principal subsidiary,
The Northern Trust Company.
Osborn joined Northern Trust in 1970 and subsequently
held leadership positions in the commercial banking and personal
financial services business units. He was named president
and chief operating officer in 1993 and became chairman and
chief executive officer, in addition to president, in 1995.
He stepped down as president in 2006 and as CEO on Jan. 1,
2008.
In addition to Tribune and Northern
Trust, Osborn serves on the board of directors for Caterpillar
Inc. He is highly involved with Chicago’s business, civic, education
and cultural communities, serving on the boards of: Museum
of Science and Industry; Northwestern University and Northwestern’s
Kellogg School of Management; Chicago Symphony Orchestra;
Lyric Opera; Northwestern Memorial HealthCare; Chicago Urban
League; YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago; United Way of Metropolitan
Chicago Inc.; Executives’ Club of Chicago; Chicago
Council on Global Affairs; Economic Club of Chicago; Chicago
Club; Chicago United; Renaissance Schools Fund; and Financial
Services Roundtable.
Osborn holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s
degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
