
Tribune Increases Quartler Dividend
10%
Board of Directors elects
new member, approves other appointments
CHICAGO, February 13, 2001 --
Tribune Company's board of directors today
declared a 10 percent increase in the regular quarterly dividend
to $0.11 per share from $0.10 per share of common stock. The
dividend will be paid on March 8, 2001, to shareholders of
record at the close of business on Feb. 23, 2001. It is the
company's eighth consecutive annual dividend increase.
The board also elected Enrique (Rick) Hernandez,
Jr. as a director of Tribune Company. Hernandez fills the
vacancy created by the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld, who
became Secretary of Defense in the Bush administration. Hernandez,
45, is Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of
Inter-Con Security Systems, Inc., a Los Angeles-based international
security services firm. He also is the co-founder and principal
partner of Interspan Communications, a television broadcast
company that provides advertisers access to the Hispanic market
in the United States.
In addition, the board elected Irene Freutel,
director/compensation and benefits, as vice president/compensation
and benefits for Tribune Company, and approved the appointment
of Chandler Bigelow, director/corporate finance, as assistant
treasurer for the company.
Freutel, 38, was named director/compensation
and benefits in November 1998. Prior to joining Tribune, she
served as assistant vice president/compensation, benefits
and employee services at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation.
She held various positions at the company, including director/finance
and corporate support HR and director/compensation and benefits
at the former Santa Fe Railway Company. Freutel holds a master's
of business administration degree from The University of Chicago
and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the
University of Illinois.
Bigelow, 32, joined Tribune Company in 1998
as part of the Tribune Financial Development Program and became
manager/corporate finance in March 1999. He was named director/corporate
finance for Tribune Company in January 2000. Prior to joining
Tribune, Bigelow held a variety of investor relations positions,
including manager/investor relations for Spyglass Inc. and
was a co-founder and vice president of Brainerd Communicators.
He holds a master's in business administration from the University
of Wisconsin and a bachelor's degree from Trinity College
in Hartford, Conn.
