Tribune Executives Outline "Multimedia
Company of the Future"
CEO John Madigan, EVP
Dennis FitzSimons address media conference
Importance of multimedia, major markets highlighted
CHICAGO, March 6, 2001 -- Tribune
Company (NYSE: TRB) executives
today outlined their vision of the media company of the future,
emphasizing the importance of multimedia, major markets and
mass audiences. Speaking at the Bear Stearns Media, Entertainment
& Information Conference, Tribune Chairman, Chief Executive
Officer and President John W. Madigan said those media companies
able to deliver mass audiences to advertisers through multiple
media channels are best positioned for future success.
"At Tribune, we are building the multimedia
company of the future," said Madigan. "Multiple
distribution channels in the same market enable media companies
to do at least three things better: share and enrich content,
cross-promote brands, and cross-sell advertising."
Madigan pointed to the early success of the
company's national advertising unit, Tribune Media Net, which
so far this year has generated more than $8 million in advertising
across multiple media platforms and markets. "This is
the beginning of something big," said Madigan.
Earlier in the day, Tribune's Executive Vice
President Dennis FitzSimons participated in a panel discussion
on the future of television broadcasting and said Tribune
is uniquely positioned for success. FitzSimons said, "With
Tribune owning television and newspaper assets in the top
markets, we are able to reaggregate audience share to cross-promote
brands and cross-sell advertising."
