Chicago Tribune newspaper
CHICAGO, March 20, 2001 -- Tribune
Company (NYSE:TRB) today
named new chief financial officers at its publishing and broadcasting
divisions and at the Chicago Tribune newspaper. The appointments
were announced by Dennis J. FitzSimons, Tribune's Executive
Vice President, and are effective immediately.
"The chief financial officers of our divisions
play a crucial role as Tribune continues growing and expanding
its businesses," said FitzSimons. "We are fortunate
to have a number of talented and experienced financial professionals
within the company, and these appointments are a reflection
of the depth of Tribune's management team."
Gerald W. (Jerry) Agema, currently Vice President/Administration
and Chief Financial Officer for Tribune Broadcasting, has
been named to the same position for Tribune Publishing. "Jerry
is a talented professional who has done an outstanding job
overseeing dramatic growth within the broadcasting division-from
six stations, when he became CFO in 1985, to its current 22
stations," said Jack Fuller, President of Tribune Publishing.
"Jerry's leadership skills and strong financial background
will enhance the organizational structure of the publishing
division."
Succeeding Agema at Tribune Broadcasting will
be Thomas D. Leach, Vice President/ Corporate Development.
"Before joining the corporate development group, Tom
was the vice president of strategy and development for Tribune
Broadcasting so he has played a key role in our television
acquisitions and is familiar with our growth strategies in
broadcasting," said FitzSimons. "As a former auditor
and analyst, Tom has the discipline to continue the outstanding
financial track record of our broadcasting division."
Phil Doherty, currently Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer of Tribune Publishing, has been named
to the same position at the Chicago Tribune. "Phil has
provided financial leadership to Tribune Publishing since
1994. His in-depth knowledge of publishing finances make him
ideally suited to lead the finances of the company's flagship
newspaper," said Scott Smith, Chicago Tribune President
and Chief Executive Officer.
Agema, Leach and Doherty are all certified
public accountants.
