Tribune Declares Quarterly Dividend

Appoints new Vice President for Human Resources Service Center

CHICAGO, February 12, 2002 -- Tribune Company's board of directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of $.11 per share on common stock payable on Mar. 14, 2002, to stockholders of record at the close of business on Feb. 28, 2002. The board made the declaration at its regular meeting earlier today.

The board also elected Susan Mitchell as vice president/human resources service center. Located at Tribune headquarters in Chicago, the center consolidates the administration of several important programs for the company's employees across the country. Mitchell, 43, is responsible for the management of the company's Labor and Employee Relations Department, Benefits Service Center, Recruitment Resource Center and Conference Center.

"Susan is the perfect fit to lead the administration of these important employee-focused programs," said Luis Lewin, Tribune's senior vice president for human resources. "Her talent and depth of experience enable her to bring real leadership to these critical areas."

Prior to joining Tribune Company in October 2000, Mitchell worked for 20 years in the staffing industry, where she was most recently regional vice president for ProStaff, Inc. Before that, she was an officer and regional vice president at Kelly Services.
