Tribune Files 2002 Second Quarter 10-Q
and Required Certifications with SEC
CHICAGO, August 9, 2002 -- Tribune
Company (NYSE: TRB) today
filed its 2002 second quarter 10-Q and the certifications
required by the Securities and Exchange Commission’s
June 27, 2002 special order and by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
of 2002. The certifications were signed without exception
by John Madigan, Tribune’s chairman and chief executive
officer, and Don Grenesko, Tribune’s chief financial
officer.
The SEC special order certifications cover
Tribune’s 2001 10-K, the 2002 first and second quarter
10-Q’s, and the 2002 Proxy Statement. The Sarbanes-Oxley
certifications (also known as "Section 906 certifications")
cover the 2002 second quarter 10-Q. The certification process
was reviewed with the audit committee of the company’s
Board of Directors.
"Many of the new laws and regulations
reflect policies and practices which have been in place at
Tribune for years, and have always given us complete confidence
in the accuracy of our financial reporting," said Madigan.
Copies of the special order certifications
were filed under an 8-K and are posted on Tribune’s
website at www.tribune.com. The Section 906 certifications
were filed as exhibits to the 2002 second quarter 10-Q, which
is also available through the website.
