Tribune Introduces CareerBuilder FlexAds:
Integrated Print and Online Job Listings
CHICAGO, August 12, 2002 -- Tribune
Company (NYSE: TRB) today
introduces CareerBuilder FlexAds, an integrated print and
online job listing that provides consumers a quick way to
access more job information and streamlines the ad buying
process for employers. FlexAds now appear in the CareerBuilder
Sunday sections of Orlando Sentinel/orlanodsentinel.com and
Hartford Courant/ctnow.com, and will debut in Tribune's 9
other newspapers in the coming months.
"The combination of print and online recruitment
advertising has never been more powerful," said Craig
Besant, Tribune Classified Services vice president/recruitment
category. "We've tested FlexAds at the Hartford Courant
since April and approximately 35 percent of the newspaper's
print ads are converting to the product. It's clear that employers
recognize the efficacy and value in an integrated approach."
The product consists of a newly-formatted print
ad that includes a Web ID code and online job posting with
a full job description on CareerBuilder for 30 days. The Web
ID code helps drive candidates from the print ad to a robust
online listing-providing more job information than ever before.
FlexAds give employers control to purchase
print and online advertising whenever and wherever they chose.
FlexAds can be purchased online with a credit card, through
the newspapers' call centers or through recruitment advertising
agencies.
"FlexAds combine the reach of local newspapers
and the flexibility of the Internet and make it easy for employers
to attract top talent," said Bob Montgomery, CareerBuilder
chief executive officer. "CareerBuilder is happy to join
forces with its newspaper partners, like Tribune, to bring
integrated print and online solutions to market."
FlexAds are enabled by technology created by
AdStar, a leading application service provider for the classified
advertising industry. Earlier this year, Tribune entered into
a strategic alliance with AdStar to develop this technology.
"Our goal was to make it easy for customers
of all sizes to place recruitment ads in print and online,"
said Tim Landon, Tribune Classified Services president "AdStar's
knowledge of newspaper classified operations systems helped
us create a highly scaleable platform that delivers that flexibility
and ease."
"AdStar's core competency is in connecting
advertisers with publishers and allowing them to do business
electronically," said Leslie Bernhard, AdStar president.
"We're delighted to work together with Tribune as we
introduce this revolutionary recruitment tool to the marketplace."
By late October, FlexAds will be offered in
all 11 of Tribune's Sunday CareerBuilder sections and newspaper
Web sites. Those newspapers are the Los Angeles Times/latimes.com,
Chicago Tribune/chicagotribune.com, Newsday/newsday.com, Baltimore
Sun /sunspot.net, South Florida Sun-Sentinel/ sun-sentinel.com,
The Orlando Sentinel/orlandosentinel.com, The Hartford Courant/ctnow.com,
Daily Press/dailypress.com (Newport News, Va.), The Morning
Call/mcall.com (Allentown, Pa.), The Advocate/stamfordadvocate.com
and Greenwich Time/greenwichtime.com (both serving Connecticut's
Fairfield County).
