
Tribune Company Names James Ellis Vice
President/Brand Management
CHICAGO, November 25, 2002 --
Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB)
today announced that James Ellis has been named to the newly
created position of vice president/brand management. In this
role he will be responsible for building increased consumer
awareness of Tribune’s media operations and for coordinating
group activities in marketing and promotion.

viewing at Tribune’s newspapers, television stations
and interactive sites," said Dennis FitzSimons, President
of Tribune Company. "His reputation for stimulating new
ideas and working across divisional lines makes him an excellent
choice for this new assignment."
"Jim’s experience in marketing and
branding has been important to Tribune Broadcasting's success
over the past 20 years," said Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing
president to whom Ellis will report. "In this new role,
we’re expecting him to generate the same kind of excitement
throughout the entire company."
A familiar face in cross-divisional projects,
Ellis previously served as synergy coordinator for Tribune
Company from 1997 to 1999. And in 1992, he was part of the
team that launched CLTV, Tribune’s first 24-hour local
cable news channel.
Since May 2000, Ellis has coordinated broadcasting
group operations in addition to marketing and creative services.
Previously he served as vice president/creative services for
Tribune Broadcasting where he was responsible for the promotion
and marketing activities for the 24-station TV group. His
accomplishments include formation of Tribune Creative Services
Group, the company’s promotion production company based
in Atlanta, and creation of a producers training program designed
to attract promising creative talent for the television stations.
Before joining Tribune Broadcasting as director/creative services
in 1982, Ellis was vice president/promotion and advertising
at Frank N. Magid Associates, a media research and consulting
firm. He also has held positions as marketing and promotion
manager for WKRC-TV, and creative director for James A. Jacobs
Advertising, each in Cincinnati.
A native of the Midwest, born on March 3, 1947,
Ellis holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from
the University of Cincinnati. He has received numerous industry
achievement honors during his career, including four Emmy
Awards.
