Tribune Company Names James Ellis Vice President/Brand Management

CHICAGO, November 25, 2002 -- Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB) today announced that James Ellis has been named to the newly created position of vice president/brand management. In this role he will be responsible for building increased consumer awareness of Tribune’s media operations and for coordinating group activities in marketing and promotion.

"We’re fortunate to have someone like Jim who can work on new ways to develop readership and viewing at Tribune’s newspapers, television stations and interactive sites," said Dennis FitzSimons, President of Tribune Company. "His reputation for stimulating new ideas and working across divisional lines makes him an excellent choice for this new assignment."

"Jim’s experience in marketing and branding has been important to Tribune Broadcasting's success over the past 20 years," said Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing president to whom Ellis will report. "In this new role, we’re expecting him to generate the same kind of excitement throughout the entire company."

A familiar face in cross-divisional projects, Ellis previously served as synergy coordinator for Tribune Company from 1997 to 1999. And in 1992, he was part of the team that launched CLTV, Tribune’s first 24-hour local cable news channel.

Since May 2000, Ellis has coordinated broadcasting group operations in addition to marketing and creative services. Previously he served as vice president/creative services for Tribune Broadcasting where he was responsible for the promotion and marketing activities for the 24-station TV group. His accomplishments include formation of Tribune Creative Services Group, the company’s promotion production company based in Atlanta, and creation of a producers training program designed to attract promising creative talent for the television stations.

Before joining Tribune Broadcasting as director/creative services in 1982, Ellis was vice president/promotion and advertising at Frank N. Magid Associates, a media research and consulting firm. He also has held positions as marketing and promotion manager for WKRC-TV, and creative director for James A. Jacobs Advertising, each in Cincinnati.

A native of the Midwest, born on March 3, 1947, Ellis holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of Cincinnati. He has received numerous industry achievement honors during his career, including four Emmy Awards.
