
Tribune Company Elects Two Directors
Betsy Holden, co-CEO,
Kraft Foods, Inc., and Kathryn Turner, chairperson and CEO,
Standard Technology, Inc., Join Board
CHICAGO, December 4, 2002 -- Tribune
Company (TRB: NYSE) today
announced that Betsy Holden, co-CEO of Kraft Foods, Inc. and
president and CEO, Kraft North America, and Kathryn Turner,
chairperson and CEO, Standard Technology, Inc., have been
elected directors of the company.
"Betsy and Kathryn bring a wealth of talent and experience
to the board," said John Madigan, Tribune chairman and
CEO. "Both of them have considerable ability and a track
record of proven success at their respective companies. They
will lend valuable insight and perspective to Tribune’s
board of directors."
Betsy Holden became co-CEO of Kraft Foods,
Inc. in 2001. She retained her position as president and CEO
of Kraft Foods North America, which she assumed in May 2000.
She held a number of management positions since joining General
Foods Corporation (which later merged with Kraft, Inc.) in
1982.
Holden is a member of the Kraft Foods board
of directors and also a director of Tupperware Corporation.
She is on the Advisory Board of Northwestern University’s
Kellogg Graduate School of Management and serves on the boards
of the Grocery Manufacturers of America, Evanston Northwestern
Healthcare and the Museum of Science and Industry. In addition,
she is board president for Chicago’s Off the Street
Club.
Kathryn Turner founded Standard Technology
in 1985. The Falls Church, Va., company is a healthcare, benefits
and technology consulting firm that delivers innovative solutions
and applications to commercial businesses and government organizations.
In 1994, President Bill Clinton appointed Turner
to the President’s Export Council. In 1993, she was
appointed to the Commission on the Future of Worker-Management
Relations, a joint commission of the Departments of Labor
and Commerce, established by President Clinton. In 1992, she
was the first woman appointed by the Secretary of Defense
to the Defense Policy Advisory Committee on Trade (DPACT).
Turner is on the board
of directors of Standard Technology, Inc., ConocoPhillips,
Schering-Plough Corporation and Carpenter Technology Corporation.
She is also a board member of the National Capital Area Council
of the Boy Scouts of America, Children’s Hospice International
and ElderPort.
