CHICAGO, March 17, 2003 -- Tribune Publishing today announced the appointment of Kenneth Harding, veteran newspaper operations consultant and architect, as vice president of operations and distribution. In his new role, Harding will coordinate companywide operations, printing and distribution activities and capital projects for Tribune’s 12 daily newspapers including the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and Newsday.

Harding joins Tribune from McClier Corporation, where he served as executive vice president since 2001, with responsibility for the firm’s newspaper/media strategic business unit, McClier Consulting and the firm’s Denver/Phoenix regional offices. At McClier, Harding assisted several Tribune newspapers with a variety of projects including strategic planning, feasibility studies, process analysis and project implementation, including recently completed projects for the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune.

"Tribune newspapers have worked closely with Ken for many years," said Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing president. "He comes to the job with a wealth of knowledge and experience both of the industry in general and of us." Harding will report to Fuller and will assume his new duties on May 19.

"Tribune has a great sense for the newspaper business and a well-established reputation for operational efficiency in the newspaper industry," said Harding. "I look forward to working even more closely with its publishing group and with the talented and dedicated people who have helped make the company’s newspapers so successful."

From 1988 to 2001, Harding founded and led designALLIANCE, a consulting firm specializing in newspaper operations, interior design and architecture. Before that, he was an executive vice president at Peter Lendrum Associates in Phoenix from 1983 to 1988 where he started and managed Lendrum’s newspaper group. He began his career at BJSS Architects in 1974 in Olympia, Wash., and was principal when he left the firm in 1988.

Born January 15, 1951, Harding is a native of eastern Washington. He holds two bachelor’s degrees, in science and architecture, from Washington State University.
