Tribune Names New Senior
Managers at Hoy
Publisher Louis
Sito Retires;
Chicago Hoy Veteran
Digby Solomon Diez Named Publisher;
Tribune Publishing
Executive Timothy Kennedy Becomes Chief Operating Officer
CHICAGO, July 19, 2004
-- Tribune Publishing, a division
of Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB), today announced that Digby
Solomon Diez, vice president/general manager of Hoy,
Chicago, has been named interim publisher of Hoy,
and that publishing executive Timothy Kennedy will serve as
interim chief operating officer at the newspaper. Both appointments
are effective immediately. Solomon succeeds Louis Sito, who
has served as publisher of Hoy since 1998 and is
retiring.
"I am proud of the growth of Hoy
and my long-association with it and the service we have provided
to the Hispanic community," said Sito. "But in view
of Hoy’s recent circulation issues, I do not
want to be a distraction to the great work being done at the
newspaper on a daily basis. It is time for me to move on."
Solomon was named vice president/general manager
of Hoy’s Chicago edition in August 2003, and
has overseen all business aspects of the paper, including
advertising sales, production, circulation and finance. He
served as director/general manager of the Spanish-language
weekly ¡Exito!, published by Chicago Tribune Company
prior to Tribune Publishing’s introduction of Hoy
in Chicago. From November 1999 to June 2003, Solomon also
served as general manager of Chicago Tribune Interactive.
"Day in and day out, Hoy continues
delivering on its mission of providing great journalism and
service to the Hispanic community," said Solomon. "Tribune
and Hoy remain fully committed to that mission and
we are looking forward to continued growth on the foundation
we have established in the nation’s top three markets."
Solomon has worked in various editorial and
business positions at Tribune newspapers in Chicago, South
Florida and Virginia over the past 14 years. Prior to joining
Tribune, Solomon was assistant news director at WVIR-TV, in
Charlottesville, Va. He also owned and operated two radio
stations in Virginia. Solomon began his journalism career
as a newspaper reporter and served as a foreign correspondent
and bureau chief for United Press International in South America
and the Caribbean.
A native of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, born April
14, 1953, Solomon holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism
and political science from George Washington University.
Tim Kennedy was named vice president/strategy
and development for Tribune Publishing in January 2001. Since
then he has directed strategic planning for the publishing
group and led many business development efforts for Tribune
newspapers, including the expansion of Hoy into Chicago
and Los Angeles.
Previously, Kennedy was vice president/development
of Tribune Company from May 2000 to 2001. He played a key
role in the Times Mirror acquisition in June 2000.
