Tribune Direct to Integrate and Expand Direct Marketing Services

Combined entity continues to serve advertisers in local newspaper markets

CHICAGO, May 9, 2006 -- Tribune Publishing, a division of Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB), today announced the combination of its seven existing direct marketing businesses to form a national marketing company called Tribune Direct. The seven established local businesses are: Baltimore Sun Direct in Baltimore, Md.; Courant Direct in Hartford, Conn.; Raven Direct in Bath, Pa.; Sun Sentinel Direct in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Sentinel Direct in Orlando, Fla.; Times Direct in Los Angeles; and Tribune Direct Marketing in Northlake, Ill. Collectively, the businesses produce nearly two million pieces of mail daily.

"Our direct marketing businesses have long been a great complement to Tribune newspapers," said Scott Smith, Tribune Publishing president. "By integrating these local businesses into a larger, national operation, Tribune Direct will be able to better serve customers with a full suite of targeted marketing solutions."

Tribune Direct will provide strategic, targeted, direct mail solutions to customers. Services offered will include data warehousing and analytics, program design & creative services, campaign management and response analysis, list targeting, print production, and distribution.
