Tribune Broadcasting Appoints Programming Chief

CHICAGO Apr. 3, 2008 -- Tribune Broadcasting today announced the appointment of Sean Compton as senior vice president for programming and entertainment, effective immediately. Compton will oversee programming for the company’s 23 television stations and for Superstation WGN.

"I’m glad to finally be working in television," said Compton. "I have a rich history of television viewing dating back to when I started watching Captain Kangaroo."

Compton was most recently head of programming for Clear Channel Communications, where he oversaw the creation and development of radio programs and features built around such high profile celebrities and entertainers as Ryan Seacrest, Whoopi Goldberg, Ty Pennington, business mogul Donald Trump, and conservative commentator, Sean Hannity.

"Yeah, I’ve gotten to work with some pretty cool people and helped develop some of the country’s most popular programs," said Compton. "But, as Frank Sinatra said, ‘The best is yet to come.’ I can’t wait to get going at Tribune."

Prior to Clear Channel, Compton worked at Jacor Broadcasting and was named the company’s vice president of programming in 1998. Compton, who’s 34 years old and has worked in radio since he was in high school, says his childhood hero was actually legendary NBC programmer Brandon Tartikoff.

"I’ve known Sean for more than ten years -- he’s wild, unpredictable and ultimately, a brilliant programmer," said Ed Wilson, Tribune Broadcasting’s president. "I have no doubt the success he achieved in radio can be even greater on the television side of the business, especially when it comes to programming an asset like Superstation WGN. There’s a lot of work to do, and at thirty-four years old, there isn’t a grey hair on his head—that, I can assure you, will change."
